FAQ

DROP OFF LOCATIONS

What are your drop off locations?
Dropping off your paper at a shipping, or office supplies store may not be a secure option. For more details, please click HERE to find a great discussion about the pros and cons associated with drop off shredding locations.
Where are you located?

Shred Northwest COMES TO YOU!  Our service territory is massive.  To keep up with all the demand for our shredding services, Shred Northwest operations have moved out to where we could find some room to grow.

The Shred Northwest operations are now physically located 15 minutes east of I-205 at 26180 SE Highway 212, Boring, OR 97009, immediately along the highway.  This location is also 20 minutes south of I-84 if coming from Gresham.  There are over 10 acres, and tens of thousands of square feet of our own private secure warehouse space.  When you arrive, please make a hard right turn to go to the front of the office where we will greet you.  Our mailing address is PO Box 247, Boring, OR 97009.

GENERAL QUESTIONS

What do I need to know before I call?
The short answer is not too much…we want to make it as easy as possible.
If you’re calling us for the first time, thinking about a shredding project, we’ll just need to talk about logistics like; “how many boxes/bags/pounds of paper or hard drives do you have?”, “where abouts are you located?”, “are there any stairs, basements, or attics we need to access?”, etc. From there we work out the right date on the calendar and get some additional details in order to get your Certificate of Destruction prepared.
If you’re calling us about a customer service related issue like questions about your bill, our goal is to make it right 100% of the time. You will find fair, reasonable and friendly professionals when you call in who can help. 503-669-0460
What can I expect when I call in?
Friendly, helpful, quality service – of course. You may not speak with the same person every time, but everyone you talk to should be up to speed with how to help you, and pick up where the other person left off. We’re a close team, and we hope you feel like family…uh…let us clarify…we hope you feel like you’re part of a “high functioning” family 🙂
When is my next scheduled shred?
Please send us an email at info@shrednw.com and we can send you the details you need and your yearly calendar.
Will my price change from the Quote I received?
No. The only time the charged price will be different from the quoted price will be if the scope of work changes since we have spoken with you, before we start the project. Here’s an example: Say we speak with you and it is understood that Shred Northwest will arrive onsite and destroy 50 boxes that are 12″ x 12″ x 15″ (standard 1.2 cubic foot boxes). We have been told there is an elevator and a loading dock. The day of the project arrives and when we arrive and the loading dock is under construction, the elevator is broken, and instead of 50 boxes there are 200 boxes, and they are all in an attic. Hahaha. If this were to happen, and we don’t want this to happen, our Shred Northwest operator is trained to contact us before we start the project so that we can communicate with you first and get on the same page before the operations begin.
The most desirable scenario is that we arrive to a project that is exactly what we planned on. We don’t like operational surprises, and you don’t like cost increases. Small quantity variances for volumes and conditions are accounted for in the original quote. For example: Say we speak with you and it is understood that Shred Northwest will arrive onsite and destroy 50 boxes that are 12″ x 12″ x 15″ (standard 1.2 cubic foot boxes), we have been told there is an elevator and a loading dock. When we arrive the loading dock is temporarily full and there are 60 boxes. This small variation is a planned/unplanned experience and should be built into the initial quote, thereby not creating price surprises. Additionally, we give you a price for “up to” the amount of boxes that you told us you have and we give you a “per box after” price for any additional boxes. For example, we can give you a price for up to 50 boxes, we show up and you have 60 boxes, those additional 10 boxes would be on the “per box after” price.

PAPER PREP

Do I have to remove paper clips and staples from my paper before you can shred it?
Nope. You can leave it all on there. Paper clips, staples, binder clips, 2-prong fasteners are all acceptable to go in the shred bin with your paper.
I have X-rays in our clients’ files, do I need to remove them?
The answer is: it depends. If you have x-rays and we are shredding on-site then most likely they will need to be removed. If we are shredding offsite, then it’s possible we can do the sorting for you. We hope you will be very clear with us if you have x-rays because if we don’t know there are x-rays in the paper and everything is shred together, it’s likely that the entire load becomes unable to be recycled.
Modern, digital, x-rays are plastic and have no residual value. For modern x-rays we shred them and dispose of the remnants. Traditional analog x-rays have trace amounts of silver and we can still recycle them for you via a destruction process. Depending on the market price of silver commodities we may be able to do this at no charge. When you call into our office, 503-669-0460, we will be able to work those details out for you.
My paper is in binders, do I need to take it all out?
As a general rule, you will not need to take your paper out of binders…we will do this for you. However, we will ask you about the “looseness” of the paper when we are quoting you the price for the project. Sometimes paper can be fastened together in 8-12 inch “books” of older “green bar” style of paper reporting with wires and complicated fasteners. These need to be removed, as well as more common “3 ring binders” in order not to contaminate the paper, however if you just let us know when we talk about the scope of the project, there will not be any surprises for either of us.

We always go out of our way to not “nickel and dime” our customers. Additionally, if we quote a price, we stand by it. For more details about our quotes and prices, please see here.

Can I put CD’s in my shred bin?
A few CD’s are OK, but if you have several CD’s, tapes or hard drives to shred please let us know. Large amounts of CD’s contaminate paper fiber and so we will need scope a non-fiber media destruction element into our proposal.
